Private, in-browser display diagnostics

Refresh Rate Test

A refresh rate test estimates how many new frames your browser and monitor present each second. Measure active display Hz, browser FPS, frame time, and stability without installing software or sending data anywhere.

Keep this tab visible and the window on the display you want to test.

Frame timing

Stable frame pacing matters as much as the headline refresh rate.

Confidence

Browser timing is an estimate. Confirm the configured value in macOS, Windows, or your display control panel if the result is unexpected.

Compare motion at common frame rates

Each marker takes the same path, but its position updates in discrete steps. Your display cannot show more unique steps than its active refresh rate.

How to get a reliable result

1. Choose the display

Move this window to the monitor you want to measure and maximize it.

2. Keep the tab active

Start the test and avoid switching tabs, resizing, or running heavy work.

3. Confirm and retest

Compare the result with system settings, then repeat if confidence is low.

Refresh rate questions

What is a refresh rate test?

A refresh rate test estimates how many times per second your browser and display can present a new frame. The result is measured in hertz (Hz), where 60 Hz means up to 60 refreshes per second.

Is refresh rate the same as FPS?

No. Refresh rate is the display's update capacity, while FPS is the number of frames an app or game renders. Smooth output is limited by the lower of the two and can also be affected by frame pacing.

Why does this test show the wrong refresh rate?

Power saving, a background tab, browser throttling, variable refresh rate, an external monitor setting, or an overloaded device can change the measured result. Keep this tab visible and close heavy apps before retesting.

Can a browser test measure monitor Hz exactly?

A browser can estimate active presentation timing with requestAnimationFrame, but it cannot read every display-controller detail. Use the operating system's display settings to confirm the configured refresh rate.

Is a higher refresh rate better?

Higher refresh rates can make motion and input feel smoother when the device also renders enough frames. The benefit depends on content, hardware performance, response time, and personal sensitivity.
