How to check your screen resolution

  1. 1. Open this page

Open the checker on the display you want to measure. Your resolution appears instantly, with nothing to install.

  2. 2. Read the numbers

CSS pixels are what websites see; physical pixels multiply them by the device pixel ratio.

  3. 3. Resize or copy

Resize the window or drag it to another monitor to see live updates, then copy the details for a bug report.

Screen resolution questions

What is my screen resolution?

Your screen resolution is shown at the top of this page as width × height. The first number is what your browser reports in CSS pixels; the physical resolution multiplies it by your device pixel ratio to give the panel's real pixel count.

Why is my screen resolution lower than my monitor's?

Operating-system scaling makes browsers report smaller CSS pixel sizes. A 1920 × 1080 laptop at 125% Windows scaling reports 1536 × 864 with a pixel ratio of 1.25, and a Retina MacBook at 2x reports half its physical width and height.

What is the difference between screen resolution and viewport size?

Screen resolution is the size of the whole display. Viewport size is the area inside the browser window where a web page renders, so it shrinks when the window is not maximized or when toolbars, tabs, and scrollbars take up space. Responsive CSS breakpoints use the viewport width.

What is device pixel ratio?

Device pixel ratio (DPR) is the number of physical screen pixels per CSS pixel. A DPR of 1 is a standard display, 2 is a Retina or HiDPI display, and phones often use 3. Browser zoom also changes the reported DPR.

What is the most common screen resolution?

1920 × 1080 (Full HD) remains the most common desktop resolution, followed by 1366 × 768, 1536 × 864, and 2560 × 1440. On phones, CSS viewport widths between 360 and 430 pixels are the most common.
